Customer Reviews

This doesn't need to be a long review. Basically, the main brush doesn't turn. The manual says you can set the height at the lowest setting. I have typical construction grade carpet in a new house. The main brush will not turn on the lower 3 settings. Once I raise it up enough to turn, the brushes are barely touching the carpet, and simple fuzz or dirt doesn't get picked up.
The culprit seems to be the on/off lever for the main brush belt. There is a spring in there, and it doesn't apply enough force on the belt to engage the motor shaft and brush. The lever is actuated by foot. I don't know why they don't have a stronger spring in there. I'm a mechanical engineer, and I am incredibly surprised this design ever made it to the market.
If it wasn't for this HUGE issue (the main purpose of a vacuum, a rotating brush), this would be a good vacuum. I'm going to look for a similar Hoover, but one that you can't turn off the brush. Their method for switching is a major failure.
I read one review of the UH70210 model, I believe, and someone mentioned the brush problem. That was absolutely serious and true.
Save your time, and don't buy this thing. It kind of worked for the first time I used it, but I could hear and see the changing RPMs of the roller. The window by the brush is nice. It's good here, so you know your vacuum is not functioning.
Get something different. I can't warn you enough.

Review for Hoover UH70200 - I believe it's the same unit as the UH70205, although just marketed or distributed differently.
I purchased this vacuum cleaner for my wife and have used it a number of times myself. It has worked very well for me each time I've used it - both for hard floor surfaces and for carpet of varying heights. We don't have pets, so I can't comment on it's ability with pet hair. I would definitely recommend it.
The following are the features that I like:
1. light weight:
Not too light (doesn't feel cheap), but it's easy to push through higher pile carpeting and use on / carry up stairs. Our previous upright (a Dirt Devil) was self-propelled and probably weighed about 5 pounds heavier...too heavy to easily use on / carry up and down stairs.
2. roller stop pedal for use on hard surfaces:
Our previous upright would scatter dirt all over the hardwood floors as the roller kept rotating. Having this pedal to stop the roller while using on hard surfaces works great!
4. bagless:
People love bagless or they hate it - I love it! Saves money and allows you to see the dirt that has been sucked up (also handy to see small parts for kids toys that have been sucked up)!
3. folding handle:
Handle folds for storage...saving about 2 or 2-1/2 feet of height. This is great if you store it in a closet where coats are hung.
4. reusable filter:
Very nice feature - dirty filters are a major problem with uprights. They're expensive and get dirty so quickly. The filter is easily cleaned and reused - saving money and keeping performance at a high level.
5. bottom of container drops open to dump dirt:
Works pretty well, although 'fluffy' dirt gets stuck and can require you to pull it out. Can create a dusty/dirty mess sometimes if not careful, but would not prevent me from buying it again or recommending it - you just need to take your time so the dirt doesn't get dumped back on the floor. This is the only reason I didn't rate it a '5'.
6. auto rewind cord:
Nice feature - I didn't need this feature, but it does work well and maintains a clean storage profile.
